Visa Introduces Stablecoin Platform for Institutional Digital Asset Operations

Visa has unveiled the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP), a new enterprise platform designed to help financial institutions, fintechs, and payment providers access stablecoin capabilities through a single Visa-managed environment. The platform is intended to simplify how institutions come onchain by providing the infrastructure needed to access, store, redeem, and manage stablecoins within a trusted and familiar operating framework.

Building on Visa’s broader crypto strategy, VSP initially supports Open USD, a stablecoin recently introduced by Open Standard. Through the platform, institutions can mint, burn, manage, and transfer Open USD while leveraging newly introduced Wallet-as-a-Service capabilities. This integrated approach is designed to give organizations direct access to stablecoin operations without having to build and manage the underlying infrastructure themselves.

According to Visa, one of the key challenges facing institutions interested in stablecoins is not understanding the technology itself, but managing the operational requirements that come with it. The Visa Stablecoin Platform aims to address this challenge by providing a centralized environment where organizations can conduct stablecoin operations while benefiting from Visa’s established standards for security, controls, and network connectivity.

The platform offers direct access to Open USD through integration with the Open Standard ecosystem. This allows institutions to bring fiat currencies onchain and manage stablecoin flows within a Visa-supported environment. Beyond access to the stablecoin itself, VSP includes onchain wallet infrastructure that packages the controls, workflows, and operational capabilities needed to make stablecoins practical for real-world treasury, settlement, and product applications.

A central feature of the platform is its integration with Visa’s broader network and services. VSP is designed to enable stablecoins to connect with existing payment flows, treasury operations, and settlement processes. For organizations already using Visa’s settlement, treasury, and currency solutions, the platform offers interoperability that allows stablecoins to be incorporated into existing systems and workflows.

Security and operational governance are also built into the platform from the outset. VSP includes features such as dual-control approval workflows, where one user initiates an action and another authorized user must approve it before execution. It also provides comprehensive audit logging, secure passkeys, transfer allow lists, and Wallet-as-a-Service controls designed to give institutions the level of oversight and protection required for stablecoin operations.

The Visa Stablecoin Platform complements Visa’s existing stablecoin offerings, including stablecoin settlement, stablecoin-linked cards, and stablecoin money movement capabilities. Together, these solutions are intended to provide financial institutions, fintechs, and crypto platforms with multiple pathways to integrate stablecoins into their operations while accessing Visa’s global network.

Getting started with VSP begins with onboarding into Visa’s wallet infrastructure or connecting existing wallets. Institutions can then link bank accounts and establish user permissions, approval processes, and operational policies that govern stablecoin activities. Once configured, organizations can mint, redeem, hold, and transfer stablecoins as part of treasury management, liquidity management, and settlement workflows.

Visa has made the platform, including its Wallet-as-a-Service capabilities, available initially through a beta program with select clients. The beta phase is intended to give organizations an opportunity to explore how stablecoins fit within their strategies, while providing Visa with insights that will help shape the platform’s future development and broader market rollout.
