Tala and El Dorado have launched an embedded credit partnership that allows eligible users of the El Dorado digital wallet to access Tala-underwritten credit directly within the platform. The service marks Tala’s first deployment of its direct disbursement model and will initially be available in Bolivia before expanding to additional markets across Latin America. Credit is both disbursed and repaid in USD₮, enabling customers to move from a pre-qualified offer to receiving funds within seconds.
Embedded Credit Integrates Lending Directly Into the Wallet Experience
The new embedded credit offering is designed to provide a streamlined borrowing experience for eligible customers. Users receive pre-qualified credit offers inside the El Dorado wallet, select their preferred loan amount and repayment term, and receive funds directly to their wallet. Loans are settled on the Tempo blockchain, with both disbursements and repayments conducted in USD₮.
According to the companies, the model combines Tala’s lending infrastructure, capital provision, and risk management capabilities with El Dorado’s customer distribution network and existing user relationships. Tala assumes the credit risk while El Dorado provides access to customers through its digital wallet platform.
Embedded Credit Addresses Access Challenges in Bolivia
The launch focuses initially on Bolivia, where financial access remains constrained for many workers. More than 8 in 10 workers are informally employed, limiting access to traditional banking products that often require documented income histories and formal credit records.
The article notes that consumer credit accounts for just 10% of all loans within Bolivia’s banking system. As a result, many individuals have limited options when they need access to short-term borrowing for emergencies or unexpected expenses.
El Dorado has built its platform around enabling users to buy, save, send, convert, and spend USD₮. By integrating embedded credit into the wallet, the company expands its service offering beyond value storage and payments to include direct access to lending.
Tala brings more than a decade of lending experience to the partnership. The company uses proprietary AI and alternative behavioral signals to underwrite borrowers who may not meet traditional lending criteria. According to the company, it has distributed more than $9 billion in capital to over 14 million customers across Africa, Latin America, and Asia, supported by more than $500 million in funding.
El Dorado, founded in 2021, serves more than 1 million users across over 13 countries in Latin America. The company positions the partnership as a way to broaden access to financial services for existing and future customers across the region.
The partnership between Tala and El Dorado introduces embedded credit directly into a digital wallet environment, allowing eligible customers in Bolivia to access and repay USD₮ loans within seconds. By combining Tala’s credit infrastructure with El Dorado’s wallet ecosystem, the initiative aims to expand access to credit for users who may have limited engagement with traditional banking services while creating a foundation for future expansion across Latin America.
