Fonbnk Expands Its Platform with Onchain Credit Through Tala Partnership

Fonbnk has announced a partnership with digital lender Tala to introduce embedded onchain credit to its platform, marking an expansion beyond stablecoin payments and transactions into digital lending. Through the integration of Tala’s credit infrastructure, Fonbnk users will be able to access stablecoin-based credit lines directly within the platform they already use.

The partnership brings together Tala’s underwriting capabilities and Fonbnk’s growing stablecoin ecosystem. According to the companies, the collaboration is designed to make credit more accessible to users who are already active in digital asset markets, while leveraging stablecoin rails to support the movement of capital.

Tala founder and CEO Shivani Siroya said the partnership aligns with the company’s strategy of meeting customers through financial channels they already trust and use.

“Fonbnk gives us a way to reach customers through the stablecoin rails they already use and to meet them where they are, which is our ethos at Tala. Our underwriting engine is built to serve exactly this population, people who deserve access to credit and choice over their own money.”

The announcement highlights Tala’s role as the underwriting partner, bringing experience developed over more than a decade of serving borrowers in emerging markets. By integrating this capability directly into the Fonbnk platform, the companies aim to provide users with access to credit without requiring them to leave the digital ecosystem in which they already transact.

For Fonbnk, the partnership represents a strategic step in expanding the utility of stablecoins beyond payments. The company has built its platform around enabling users to buy, sell and use digital assets. The addition of lending services introduces another layer of financial functionality and reflects growing interest in combining digital asset infrastructure with traditional financial products.

Fonbnk founder and CEO Christian Duffus said customer demand played a significant role in the decision to partner with Tala rather than build a lending capability internally.

“Our users are comfortable with virtual assets and increasingly seek credit that aligns with how they already use our platform. Partnering with Tala lets us offer that immediately, backed by a decade of underwriting intelligence, rather than building a lending business from the ground up.”

The companies also indicated that the initiative could support the development of onchain credit histories for users and businesses over time. While stablecoins have already become an important tool for payments and value transfer in many markets, access to credit remains a key component of broader financial inclusion and economic participation.

The partnership signals a growing trend in digital finance, where stablecoin infrastructure is increasingly being combined with lending and other financial services. By pairing Tala’s underwriting expertise with Fonbnk’s user base and digital asset platform, the two companies are seeking to extend credit access through the same channels where customers already store and transact with digital assets.

As digital financial services continue to evolve, the collaboration illustrates how fintech firms are looking beyond payments to provide a broader range of products. For Fonbnk, the move expands its role from facilitating transactions to supporting access to credit, while for Tala it offers a new avenue to reach customers through the stablecoin economy.
