Busha and Tether Deepen Stablecoin Infrastructure for African Businesses

African businesses have long grappled with the inefficiencies of cross-border payments. Delayed settlements, high transaction costs, currency volatility, and fragmented banking networks continue to challenge companies seeking to trade and operate beyond their domestic markets. Against this backdrop, Busha Business and Tether have announced a collaboration aimed at expanding access to regulated stablecoin infrastructure across Africa, potentially reshaping how businesses move and manage money.

Busha Business, the business-focused infrastructure arm of Busha, has partnered with Tether, the issuer of USD₮ and one of the largest companies in the digital asset industry, to provide African businesses with access to globally connected stablecoin liquidity. The initiative is designed to support faster cross-border payments, more efficient treasury management, and quicker settlement of international transactions through licensed and compliant infrastructure.

The collaboration comes at a time when demand for alternative payment rails is growing across the continent. Many African businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions face persistent challenges when making international payments or managing foreign currency exposure. Traditional banking systems often struggle to provide the speed and flexibility required by modern commerce, particularly for companies engaged in import-export activities, e-commerce, and regional trade.

Built on Busha’s SEC-licensed digital asset framework, Busha Business seeks to address these challenges by offering compliant financial infrastructure tailored to the needs of businesses. The platform currently serves more than 1,500 businesses across Nigeria and Kenya. In Kenya alone, more than 250 companies process millions of Kenyan shillings in daily transactions through the platform, using its services to pay international suppliers, manage treasury operations, and settle cross-border obligations.

For Tether, the collaboration represents another step in its broader mission to expand access to financial infrastructure globally. Paolo Ardoino, Chief Executive Officer of Tether, noted that cross-border transactions remain costly and inefficient for many businesses, particularly in emerging markets. He emphasized that collaboration between industry participants is essential to creating faster and more reliable systems for moving money internationally.

The partnership leverages Tether’s global ecosystem to give African businesses access to stablecoin liquidity that can support international trade while reducing dependence on traditional payment corridors. In practical terms, businesses gain access to faster settlement mechanisms and improved liquidity management tools, helping them operate more effectively in an increasingly interconnected marketplace.

Busha Business serves a wide range of clients, including large corporates, small and medium-sized enterprises, importers, exporters, fintech companies, e-commerce merchants, and developers building financial products for African markets. Through Busha Pay, businesses can accept payments from customers worldwide and receive settlement in U.S. dollars. The company also offers business savings products that allow firms to earn daily yields on idle USD and Naira balances through licensed third-party asset management partners.

The announcement reflects a broader evolution in the role of stablecoins within global commerce. Increasingly, businesses are moving beyond viewing stablecoins solely as investment assets and are adopting them as practical tools for payments, liquidity management, and treasury operations. Their ability to facilitate faster settlement and provide access to dollar-denominated liquidity has made them increasingly relevant for companies conducting international business.

The collaboration also aligns with Busha’s longer-term vision of strengthening stablecoin-powered financial infrastructure across Africa. Earlier this year, at the Africa Tech Summit in Nairobi, Busha Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Moyo Sodipo advocated for greater use of African-focused and locally relevant stablecoin infrastructure to support trade across Sub-Saharan Africa and reduce dependence on legacy payment systems built for other markets.

According to Sodipo, modern businesses require financial infrastructure that can keep pace with the demands of contemporary commerce. He described the partnership with Tether as an important step toward delivering globally connected liquidity through licensed infrastructure that supports faster payments, stronger treasury management, and more efficient international trade.

As African businesses continue expanding into regional and international markets, demand for regulated digital asset infrastructure is expected to grow. The partnership between Busha Business and Tether highlights a wider trend in the financial services sector, where collaborations between licensed regional operators and global stablecoin providers are increasingly shaping how businesses access capital, execute cross-border transactions, and participate in the global economy.

For Africa’s growing business ecosystem, the significance of this collaboration extends beyond payments. It reflects a broader movement toward digitally enabled financial infrastructure designed to support trade, improve liquidity management, and unlock new opportunities for businesses seeking to compete on a global stage.
