Tether has announced the successful completion of its first enterprise cross-border settlement proof of concept (POC) involving Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor de México. The pilot was conducted through Axiym’s settlement infrastructure on the Avalanche blockchain network and used Tether’s USD₮ stablecoin to facilitate the transfer of corporate funds across borders.
As part of the pilot, Hyundai Motor America converted USD 20,000 into USD₮, transferred the funds to Hyundai Motor Mexico, and then converted the stablecoin back into U.S. dollars. The process included both international transfer and verification stages, demonstrating how stablecoins can be used for cross-border corporate settlement.
According to Tether, the transfer and verification process was completed in an average of seven minutes, compared to traditional interbank transfers that typically take three to four hours or longer.
The initiative builds on Tether’s strategic investment in Axiym and highlights growing interest in blockchain-based financial infrastructure among large enterprises. Tether noted that the pilot demonstrates how stablecoins can support faster cross-border payments, treasury management, and capital movement for global businesses.
The project extended beyond the transaction itself. Hyundai Card led the design of the remittance structure and oversaw regulatory reviews, compliance requirements, accounting considerations, and the operational framework needed to evaluate stablecoin-based settlement between overseas subsidiaries.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that stablecoins are becoming a critical part of next-generation global financial infrastructure and said Hyundai’s initiative reflects growing demand for faster, more efficient, and transparent cross-border value transfer.
The next phase of the initiative will explore additional cross-border corridors and local currency settlement, further evaluating how stablecoins can support broader enterprise payment and treasury workflows. Tether said the company remains committed to supporting technologies and infrastructure that accelerate the adoption of blockchain-based financial solutions for international commerce.
